the concept of orthodoxy has a cruel history

The God of infinite goodness loves you with an eternal and pure passion.  This is agape love.  

Even if orthodox dogma was true, would it really profit you to be able repeat true religious facts to Christ?  It is particularly sad to pursue  the accrual of religious facts instead of relationship.

Mainstream Christianity's fixation with orthodoxy and heresy has missed the point.  
Heresy  and orthodoxy are a massive category  mistake. 

Through the ages Christians have embraced the paradigm that we are who we are based on dogma and not relationship, often leading to cruel persecutions of those who were classed as heretical.

However in both his life and in his embracing death on the Roman cross, Christ clearly demonstrated his solidarity with the persecuted and not the persecutors.
